Comprehensive Eye Care

Routine eye examinations are crucial in ensuring the good health of your eyes. Unfortunately, when you wait too long to have your vision checked, you can incur permanent, irreversible damage to your eyesight. Many conditions are treatable if diagnosed early. During routine ophthalmic evaluations, Dr. Seif can screen and treat you, for a wide range of ophthalmic conditions including cataracts, ocular surface disorders, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. Diagnostic services include evaluation of visual acuity, refraction, slit lamp evaluation, ophthalmoscopy, tonometry, gonioscopy, visual field testing and many other ancillary testing.

When should you get your eyes checked?

There is no such thing as too young, too old, or too healthy for a routine eye examination especially that most eye diseases cause no symptoms early on in the disease. Here are the recommendations for eye screening.

Newborn. All babies should have their eyes checked for infections, defects, cataracts, or glaucoma before leaving the hospital. This is especially true for premature babies, babies who were given oxygen for an extended period, and babies with multiple medical problems.

At 3 to 5 years. Eyes and vision should be checked for any abnormalities that may cause problems with later development. This is a good time to get your kids’ eyes checked before they start school.

At 5 to 18 years. Yearly eye examinations recommended

At 19 to 40 years. Eye examinations are recommended every 1-2 years because this is the age when eye problems start to show up.

Above 65 years. Yearly eye examinations are highly recommended.

People of any age who have eye symptoms or have medical problems such as diabetes, hypertension, or family history of eye disease should be seen more frequently.
